It has been a very good month for Korean writers. The 2017 Shirley Jackson Award for best novel was announced last week and was given to The Hole by Korean novelist Pyun Hye-young. The novel was translated into English by Ehwa University professor Sora Kim Russell. Meanwhile, another Korean novel by Han Yujoo called ‘The Impossible Fairytale’ was nominated for the PEN translation Prize. The novel was translated into English by professional translator Janet Hong. Finally, in June another Korean novelist Hwang Sok-yong was awarded the Emile Guimet Prize for Asian Literature for his book "At Dusk."
