Traffic accidents have reached a level that some are calling a 'disaster'. The culprit? The heat. One research institute has found that traffic accidents have jumped by 8 percent compared to same period last year. It found a correlation between a rise in traffic accidents and a rise in temperatures. The institute looked at the peak temperatures and the number of accidents during the analysis period between 2016-2018. When the temperature rose by one degree, the average number of traffic accidents increased by 1.2%. Similar results were found in overseas studies. According to U.S. research, when the temperature rises 1 degree during heat waves, the traffic accident rate increases by 1.1%. Researchers blame the heat for interfering with our reflexes and sound judgment.
