South Korea ended the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia with 49 gold medals and finished in third place. It was the poorest showing for Team Korea since 1982. It was also the first time Japan ranked higher than South Korea since 1994. Despite the lackluster medal count, the head of the South Korean delegation said it was an historic event as the two Koreas marched together at the opening ceremony and won four medals together as a unified Korea.
