An Italian court has sentenced a man to nine months in prison for selling fake reviews on a popular travel website. Judges said writing fake reviews under a false identity was a crime under Italian law. The man ran a company that sold reviews to hotels, restaurants and other tourism-related businesses. This is the first time paid-review fraud has resulted in a jail sentence. The travel website welcomed the ruling and says it also has an in-house investigation team to spot fake reviews.
