Fewer people are living in extreme poverty around the world. However, the decline in poverty rates has slowed according to the World Bank. This has raised concerns about achieving the World Bank's goal of ending poverty by 2030. The percentage of those living in extreme poverty globally fell to a new low of 10 percent in 2015 to 736 million people. Extreme poverty is defined as living on less than $1.90 a day. World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim said it's one of the greatest human achievements of our time that global poverty rate is now lower than it has ever been in recorded history. But Kim said more investment would be needed to reach the remaining poor.
