One of this year's Nobel Peace Prize laureates, Dr. Denis Mukwege from the Democratic Republic of Congo, told Japanese reporters that Japan has a responsibility to start combatting sexual violence against people around the world. Observers say he was referring to Japan's wartime sexual slavery given his interest in the comfort women issue. He said the testimony by the former sex slaves mirrored the accounts of the young girls he has had to help overcome sexual violence.
