Over one-hundred Japanese lawyers andscholars signed a joint statement in support the latest South Korean Supreme Court decision on the compensation of forced wartime labor. The group said the issue is one of human rights and criticized the Japanese government's combativeresponse. The statement supported the Korean court's view that individual rights to claims under the Korea-Japan Jurisdiction Agreement have not been terminated. Moreover, it said Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's claim that individual right to compensation had been completely resolved was misleading. In addition, the coalition added that Japanese companies inlitigation in Korean courts should provide more support for the victims.
