More than 14,000 firefighters, including prison volunteers, are battling catastrophic wildfires raging through California. This year’s fires are the largest in the state’s history and cover a combined area the size of Los Angeles. Emergency crews from Australia and New Zealand have flown to the US to help combat the infernos. In fact, the blazes are so large that they can be viewed from space. Three of the gigantic infernos were photographed by an astronaut on the International Space Station, some 400 kilometers above Earth.
