Korea's Fair Trade Commission has found that the Korean language institutes of 14 universities in Korea apply exorbitant penalties to their international students. The schools have been ordered to amend the policies which affect their 10-week Korean language programs. At the heart of the matter is a policy that prohibits refunds even after just one week has passed since the start of classes. Currently, more than 100,000 international students study in Korea, with some 35,000 of them studying at Korean language institutes.
